In the book, The Word of Moses, the page describes a philosophical reflection on the pursuit of true happiness, fulfillment, and wisdom. It argues that simply achieving external successes or possessing certain qualities is not enough. Instead, true well-being in various aspects of life—from professional success and financial management to personal happiness and spiritual peace—is contingent upon deeper understanding, specific actions, and internal states.

  • Initial success is insufficient: Even if one is intelligent or achieves a goal, true fulfillment requires more.
  • Interconnectedness of life: Different aspects of life (e.g., writing, marketing, finances, personal balance, spiritual connection) are linked.
  • Deeper requirements for true well-being: To find genuine happiness, wisdom, or freedom, one must cultivate specific virtues, learn from mistakes, listen to others, reflect, and let go of attachments.
  • The ultimate goal: The underlying message is that true purpose and greatness come from humility, serving others, and leaving a positive legacy.
  • It touches on the limitations of knowledge, the consequences of actions, and the need for deeper understanding beyond mere acquisition. There’s a strong undercurrent of the futility of certain pursuits and the harsh realities that undermine perceived successes.
  • It aims to instruct or reflect on universal truths, but with a sense of underlying weariness or cynicism regarding the effectiveness of human efforts.
  • The style is abstract and analytical, using a general “one” or “we” to discuss human experience. It employs a repetitive “And even if…” structure (specifically “וגם אם” / “גם כי”) to build its argument, emphasizing that each step towards success requires further, often internal, development. This creates a cumulative effect, highlighting the complexity of true fulfillment. The sentences are long and complex, reflecting a deep, contemplative thought process.

“to understand how to choose the right path for himself, a path that will not lead him to failure and disappointment. And yet, on the other hand, the choice of a path that will not lead him to failure and disappointment, even if it is not the path of the wicked, but a path that will lead him to success and happiness, is not always easy. And even if he knows the right path, he will not always be able to walk on it.”

For example, a person who is very intelligent and has a great desire to research and write, but is not able to express himself clearly and concisely, will not be able to write a good research paper. And even if he is able to write a good research paper, he will not be able to publish it if he does not know how to present it to the publisher.

And even if he is able to publish it, he will not be able to sell it if he does not know how to market it. And even if he is able to sell it, he will not be able to make a profit if he does not know how to manage his finances. And even if he is able to make a profit, he will not be able to keep it if he does not know how to invest it.

And even if he is able to invest it, he will not be able to enjoy it if he does not know how to spend it wisely. And even if he is able to spend it wisely, he will not be able to be happy if he does not know how to live a balanced life.

And even if he is able to live a balanced life, he will not be able to find true happiness if he does not know how to connect with God. And even if he is able to connect with God, he will not be able to find true peace if he does not know how to forgive himself and others.

And even if he is able to forgive himself and others, he will not be able to find true joy if he does not know how to serve others. And even if he is able to serve others, he will not be able to find true fulfillment if he does not know how to give back to the community.

And even if he is able to give back to the community, he will not be able to find true meaning in life if he does not know how to leave a legacy. And even if he is able to leave a legacy, he will not be able to find true purpose if he does not know how to inspire others.

And even if he is able to inspire others, he will not be able to find true greatness if he does not know how to humble himself. And even if he is able to humble himself, he will not be able to find true wisdom if he does not know how to learn from his mistakes.

And even if he is able to learn from his mistakes, he will not be able to find true understanding if he does not know how to listen to others. And even if he is able to listen to others, he will not be able to find true insight if he does not know how to reflect on his experiences.

And even if he is able to reflect on his experiences, he will not be able to find true clarity if he does not know how to meditate. And even if he is able to meditate, he will not be able to find true peace of mind if he does not know how to let go of his attachments.

And even if he is able to let go of his attachments, he will not be able to find true freedom if he does not know how to forgive himself and others. And even if he is able to forgive himself and others, he will not be able to find true happiness if he does not know how to love himself and others.

And even if he is able to love himself and others, he will not be able to find true joy if he does not know how to serve others.
