There are some holistic solutions to combat PTSD or CPTSD. I want to deep dive into the things you can do immediately to relieve symptoms and then discuss the brain/body anatomy. A few basics: The left side of your brain is the logical side. It is the side of the brain that informs you that you are safe. The right side of the brain is your emotional side. It is the side of your brain that informs you if you are in danger. When the right side of your brain is sole activated, you can be having a PTSD episode.

Holistic methods to help PTSD:

  • Buy a rocking chair. Your body can automatically rock due to it trying to recalibrate the right and left side of the brain response, let it happen. A rocking chair will do the same.
  • Cross your arms left hand on right shoulder and right hand on left shoulder and tap your hands (alternating left and right tapping).
  • Stand up, lift left knee and place right hand on knee. Alternate and lift right knee and place left hand on knee. Repeat several times. Recalibrates right and left brain activities.
  • Put an ice pack on the base of the neck and stem of the brain. This is where your amygdala resides. Get the amygdala and vagus nerve cold. (Please see my post about an “amygdala hijack“)
  • Place your hands in ice cold water.
  • Freeze two oranges and place in both left and right hand. Observe the oranges in your hands and allow to cold on your hands.

Let’s repeat what we mentioned about the brain. The left side of your brain is the logical side. It is the side of the brain that informs you that you are safe. The right side of the brain is your emotional side. It is the side of your brain that informs you if you are in danger. When a Fight or Flight response gets triggered in the body. Here is what happens next. Your corpus callosum membrane begins to receive adrenaline and cortisol from your adrenal glands/kidney. So much adrenaline is being pumped into your brain by your kidneys that your serotonin gets depleted. Repeat, adrenaline depletes serotonin! Simultaneously, dopamine is getting amino acids into your body so fast that you start to behave as if you are on speed or having mania. Since your serotonin is depleted, when your body returns to normal state, you can have symptoms of depression. This can often be difficult to diagnose if someone is having a bipolar episode or PTSD.
